Be wary, she steals your heart without a moments pass. The majestic domes, palaces and bridges make for an impressive site as our eyes feasted at the splendor before us. You take one step out of the Santa Lucia Station and the picturesque beauty of Venice hits you like a ton of bricks. We asked an Italian friend of ours what we should do in this unbelievably romantic city of Italy, and he simply replied, "get lost". That's exactly what we did and we came to realize it was some pretty good advice! We explored the island like it was a never ending maze; every turn seemed to lead us to an even more impressive street than the last until at one point we forgot about our maps and simply let our sights and senses lead the way. There are no streets for cars and bikes, just 150 canals, 400 bridges, and many waterways. It's amazing, we walked for hours and found something stunning and new in every corner.
The second day we were in Venice, we each opted to wear a lacy number. It's one of the most romantic cities in the world and we thought, what says romance better than lace? Elizabeth wore a white ivory dress that has gorgeous thick lace detailing on it while I wore a lace black and white top paired with short white trousers and a statement necklace. This season, it's all in the detail and lace gives you that something extra when opting for a more simple silhouette. The backdrop of Venice was a fairytale in itself so it was a complete dream for photos! Speaking of fairytales, the venetian gondolas surpassed every single hope and expectation that we had. It was a bit pricy, but completely worth it! The 40 minute ride took us through the Grand Canal passing the Marco Polo's house, the Rialto bridge, and so many richly embelished renaissance buildings. Venice was the last destination of our European trip before heading back to Germany (then Indonesia), so yes, it was quite bitter sweet bidding farewell. Fingers crossed, we'll marvel at this jewel of a city, once more.
