HOMECOMING

I confess. In my four years of living in Jakarta, I’ve never truly felt at home. And although it can be exciting living in a big city, I don’t particularly enjoy the constant noise, chaotic pace of life, and let’s not forget the unforgiving traffic one deals with on a daily basis. There’s nothing like waking up to the sound of a mob of motorcycles at 6 in the morning.

The truth is, if it weren’t due to school or work purposes, Maria and I never would have left the island in the first place. We always favored Bali over Jakarta. Who wouldn’t?

Homecoming |ˈhōmˌkəmi ng |noun : an instance of returning home. I’ve come home (momentarily for good) and it feels GREAT. If you’re wondering, Maria is still based in Jakarta, and this is the first time we’ve ever been apart this long (our record is two weeks)!  There’s always a first for everything, and this is definitely a first for us.

I want to give a big thank you to Indra Permana Kantawibawa who took these beautiful photos. Indra is a good friend of mine from University who recently quit his corporate job to pursue his dream of becoming a photographer in Bali. If you want to check out his awesome work and talent, please feel free to open his website here.

Last but not least, regarding what I’m wearing, I picked out a playsuit and statement necklace. Playsuits are a great alternative to your average high-waisted shorts or summer dresses and are really fun to wear. I especially adore the back with its unexpected lace detailing. To finish off the outfit, I added a blue statement necklace, which compliments the navy playsuit and gives the overall look the right amount of shimmer.

Whether your at home or traveling, have fun experimenting with your style this season! :)

Photos by Govinda Rumi

They  say you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. That’s probably why I’ve cherished, more than ever, quick home weekend visits to Bali. The minute I took a full-time job in Jakarta, I realized seeing family and tasting the comforts of home were luxuries no longer at my fingertips. It was so nice coming home and drowning myself in all of its simple perks and glories – spectacular sunsets, the smell of the ocean, the company of loved ones.

These shots were taken during one of those trips, where I had the pleasure of working with a brilliant photographer, and long time friend, Govinda Rumi. His company Terralogical, co-owned by his business partner and fellow photographer Bonjo Abadi, is one of the most sought after wedding photography companies in Bali.

I admire Govinda because he truly has an eye like no one else. He has the ability to see things, envision angles and create visual masterpieces one can only dream of. In essence, he’s a visual storyteller. His pictures speak volumes.

Going back to the shoot, Govinda took me to a place I had never been before (even though it was just a mere 10-minute car ride from where I live). But that’s what's great about living on this island. No matter how well you think you know it, you don’t. Not completely. It conceals hidden gems and secret corners begging to be discovered.
